Abstract

This study aims to compare the Qur'anic conception of the human being with the materialist conception that prevailed in Western philosophical thought. In the Qur'anic conception, man is seen as a being created by God Almighty with a spiritual purpose of worship and avoidance of sins, with an emphasis on the spiritual and mental dimensions that distinguish man from other beings. In the materialist conception, man is considered the result of random biological evolution and is understood in a purely materialistic framework, where biological and physiological factors are considered the decisive factor in the formation and existence of man. This study focuses on analysing these perceptions through a comparative perspective, discussing the philosophical and religious influences on the view of man, and examining the effects of these perceptions on ethics and human behaviour. The study seeks to show the extent to which the Qur'anic conceptualisation is able to provide a more integrative view of man, while the study shows the limitations of the materialist conceptualisation in understanding the essence of man and his purpose in life.
